Businesses cut orders for durable goods in April

Associated Press – The Commerce Department reported that orders for durable goods fell by 3.6 percent in April. The drop, which economists see as temporary, was attributed to interruptions in supplies stemming from the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March. Orders for nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft, a proxy for business investment, fell 2.6 percent.
